University of Connecticut Huskies sophomore Paige Bueckers, one of the biggest stars in NCAA basketball, will miss the next six-to-eight weeks with a tibial plateau fracture in her left leg.
Bueckers suffered the non-contact injury Sunday against Notre Dame.
“(Bueckers) not being able to do the thing that she loves to do, to be there for her teammates, is really difficult for her,” Huskies coach Geno Auriemma said in a statement. “Every decision made will prioritize Paige and her career. Everyone involved with this program will be there to support Paige through her healing process.”

The injury comes only three weeks after Bueckers made her season debut following off-season surgery on her right ankle. In six games this season the five-foot-11 guard is averaging 21.2 points on 56.3 per cent shooting, with 5.5 rebounds and 6.2 assists. Those numbers were all improvements over her freshman season, in which she won two NCAA freshman of the year awards and was named the top point guard in the country, becoming the first freshman to do so.
