DeBoer: Eichel still ‘a month or two months’ away from Golden Knights debut

Jack Eichel is going to have to wait a little bit longer to make his debut with the Vegas Golden Knights.

Eichel was expected to be close to returning to action after having surgery to artificially replace a herniated disk in his neck on Nov. 12.

The procedure took after the former Buffalo Sabres captain was traded to Vegas in a blockbuster deal on Nov. 4 for Alex Tuch, Peyton Krebs and a pair of draft picks.

Eichel started skating on Dec. 2 and joined his teammates at practice on Jan. 11, but head coach Peter DeBoer appears unsure when the 25-year-old will actually play.

“I don’t know what the timeframe will be,” DeBoer told reporters Wednesday. “It’ll be at least a month or two months before he plays.”

Eichel, who was selected second overall in the 2015 draft, scored 139 goals and 216 assists in 375 games with the Sabres, and hasn’t played since March 7.
