Hockey Canada named the management group and coaching staff that will lead the country’s men’s Olympic team during the Beijing Games on Friday, a contingent which includes Claude Julien as the head coach and Shane Doan as the general manager.
Joining Doan on the management team will be Scott Salmond, fulfilling senior vice-president of hockey operations and assistant general manager duties, and director of player personnel Blair Mackasey.
Julien’s coaching staff will feature assistants Nolan Baumgartner, Jeremy Colliton and Tyler Dietrich.
“We are excited to announce our experienced management group and coaching staff that will lead Canada’s Men’s Olympic Team at the 2022 Olympics,” Tom Renney, the chief executive officer of Hockey Canada, said in a statement. “With less than a month until the men’s tournament gets underway at the Olympics, we are excited to continue working with the entire staff as it prepares to represent Canada and build a roster that Canadians can support as it looks to bring home an Olympic gold medal.”

The roster Doan and his team assembled will be unveiled in the coming weeks, according to Hockey Canada.
Julien, who most recently served as a head coach at the NHL level with the Montreal Canadiens from 2017-21, won the Jack Adams Award as NHL coach of the year in 2008-09.
The veteran coach has has spent time behind the Team Canada bench, too.
At the 2014 Games, he won an Olympic gold medal as an assistant coach and has twice been an assistant with Canada’s National Junior Team at the IIHF World Junior Championship, winning silver in 1999 and bronze in 2000.
Canada is slated to open the 2022 Olympic Winter Games against Germany on Feb. 10. It will also take on the United States and China in the preliminary round before the tournament wraps up with the medal games on Feb. 20.
