The postponed 2022 World Juniors have been rescheduled and will be replayed in their entirety in “the middle of August in Alberta,” and the women’s U18 tournament will be held in June in the United States, the IIHF announced Thursday.
The World Juniors tournament in Alberta started in late December but was soon halted after several COVID-19 positive tests among the teams.
“We are talking with all participants and are negotiating on details. It will be after the Hlinka Gretzky Cup. It will be a hockey festival and the teams are excited to do it,” said IIHF president Luc Tardif.
The women’s U18 tournament, to be held in Sweden, was cancelled and seemingly was not being rescheduled. However, the IIHF reversed its position and said the rescheduled tournament will be played “in the north of the USA.” Sweden is looking to host the tournament in 2023.
