Wednesday Wagers: Can Lightning pepper Oilers with shots?

Following a Tuesday – sorry, TWOsday in honour of 2/22/22 – that saw several games come down to the wire, Wednesday’s slate also has plenty to offer.

This week’s edition of Scotiabank Wednesday Night Hockey includes the Edmonton Oilers visiting the defending Stanley Cup champion Tampa Bay Lightning on Sportsnet West.

Also, the Winnipeg Jets visit the Dallas Stars on Sportsnet 360, the suddenly streaking Montreal Canadiens host the Buffalo Sabres on Sportsnet East, the Kings travel to Arizona to face the Coyotes on SN NOW, and Colorado vs. Detroit is available to watch on SN NOW Premium.

Here are a few player prop bets to keep in mind Wednesday while enjoying the action.

Can Lightning pepper Oilers, Mike Smith with shots?

The Oilers had a five-game winning streak snapped by the Wild Sunday and look to begin a five-game road trip with a win over the defending Cup champs Wednesday.

Tampa is a middle-of-the-pack team in terms of shots on goal per game and Edmonton does an adequate job limiting opponent shots but there are a handful of Lightning players that need only to register three shots on goal to hit their overs.

Brayden Point -160
Ondrej Palat -150
Steven Stamkos -140
Victor Hedman -105
Alex Killorn +115

Killorn has had at least three shots on goal in five of his past six games, so he clearly has the best value of the bunch at plus-money. Point has averaged more than 3.7 shots per game over the past month, Stamkos has had at least three shots in half his games this season, and Hedman is coming off a four-shot outing against the Devils last week in Tampa’s most recent game.

If you’re going to fade any player above and bet the under 2.5 shots, Palat has only registered more than one shot on goal once in his past five appearances.

Can Kyle Connor keep rolling when Jets face Stars?

The winger has been quiet in two games against Dallas this season but has been en fuego in his past 10 games, registering six goals, six assists and averaging four shots on goal.

Connor has the shortest goal odds among all players in the game at +120 and his anytime assist odds are +110, indicating a strong probability his name appears on the scoresheet. Oddsmakers see Connor having a big night with five or more shots on goal set at -130 and his multipoint line is a chalky -195.

Both a two-goal and two-assist night for Connor can fetch a +500 return. Connor’s first hat trick of the season would pay out at +2900 odds. Connor sits at 29 goals on the year.

Will Canadiens’ top line give Sabres trouble?

Montreal is coming off a nice 5-2 win over the Maple Leafs Monday in which the top line of Cole Caufield, Nick Suzuki and Josh Anderson combined for seven points

Suzuki, Caufield, and Anderson have any time point odds of -170, -150 and -115, respectively, against Buffalo as they look to extend their first winning streak of the season to four straight.

All three have +200 anytime goal odds, while the individual anytime assist odds vary slightly with Suzuki at +100, Caufield +175 and Anderson +225.
