Blue Jays sign left-hander Andrew Vasquez to major league deal

The Toronto Blue Jays have added some pitching depth by signing free-agent left-hander Andrew Vasquez to a major league contract, Sportsnet’s Shi Davidi reports.

Vasquez, 28, has limited major league experience with the Dodgers and Twins, appearing in two games with Los Angeles last season.

In 2021 he appeared in 39 triple-A games in the Dodgers system, pitching 48.1 bullpen innings with a 3.54 ERA and 79 strikeouts. According to Baseball Reference, his 14.7 strikeouts per nine innings was 34th best across all levels of minor leagues (minimum 33 innings pitched) last season.

Vasquez is the third addition the Blue Jays have made to their pitching staff this off-season. Before the lockout, the team signed reliever Yimi Garcia to a two-year, $11-million contract and right-handed starter Kevin Gausman to a five-year, $110-million deal.
