Canadian Taylor Pendrith finishes tied for fifth at Bermuda Championship

Canadian Taylor Pendrith fell short of winning his first tournament on the PGA Tour at the Bermuda Championship.

The Richmond Hill, Ont. native shot a final round 76 on Sunday, which placed him with a tied for fifth finish.

“Not great,” Pendrith said when describing his final round performance.

Pendrith entered the day with a three-shot lead after 54 holes. The windy and rainy conditions made the course play extremely difficult for the field, including Pendrith. After finishing the Front 9 with three bogeys, Pendrith’s 54-hole lead evaporated. Heading to the par-5 71st hole, Pendrith was at 14-under par, one back of the lead held by Lucas Herbert. However, Pendrith fired his tee shot into the water hazard. The very next shot for the Canadian, also went into the water. Pendrith eventually recorded a double bogey, knocking him out of contention.

“It was probably the worst swing of the week, the year maybe, but I wouldn’t change it,” Pendrith said on the tee shot.

Lucas Herbert’s final round two-under 69 was good enough to win the Bermuda Championship, his first career win on the PGA Tour.

Despite not winning in Bermuda, Pendrith recorded his first career PGA Tour top-10. The 2020-21 season was Pendrith’s first on the PGA Tour after receiving a promotion last year from the Korn Ferry Tour. In 2020, Pendrith recorded six top-10 finishes on the Korn Ferry Tour, including three runner-up performances. At the 2020 U.S. Open, Pendrith’s first major championship, the Canadian finished T-23.

The Canadian will tee it up next week in Mexico at the Mayakoba World Wide Technology Championship.
