Tampa Bay Lightning forward Brayden Point will be out of the lineup indefinitely with an upper-body injury, the team announced Sunday.
Point suffered the injury during Saturday’s game against the New Jersey Devils. Near the halfway mark of the third period, Point skated through the middle of the ice with the puck and into the Devils’ zone. Ryan Graves, a defenceman for New Jersey, took a swipe at the puck with his stick, knocking Point off balance and sending him crashing into the boards.
Point was in visible distress after the play. He was awarded a penalty shot, which he took, but hit the crossbar.
Specifics about Point’s injury were not immediately disclosed by the team, nor were steps he will have to take before returning to the ice.
The 25-year-old has seven goals and six assists in 16 games for Tampa Bay this season.
