Ovechkin, who scored the eventual winner for the Capitals against the Detroit Red Wings on Friday, buried his 278th power-play goal of his career to surpass Dave Andreychuk.
“It’s a great moment for me, for the team, for the fans, for the game as well. Now it’s over and we’ll move on,” said Ovechkin after the game.

That was also Ovechkin’s 23rd goal of the season and the 753rd of his career, moving him to within 141 of Wayne Gretzky for the all-time record.
The Capitals went on to defeat the Red Wings 3-1.
