Senators’ Chabot, Zaitsev out vs. Canadiens due to non-COVID illnesses

The Ottawa Senators will be without defencemen Thomas Chabot and Nikita Zaitsev due to non-COVID-related illnesses when they host the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday night.

Ottawa made the announcement shortly before game time.

Chabot has a team-leading 22 assists and tops all defencemen on the team with 27 points in 46 games this season. He has also logged a league-leading 26:48 average ice time per game.

The 25-year-old from Sainte-Marie, Que., just returned from a four-game stint on the injured reserve Tuesday, scoring two goals and adding an assist during a 4-3 victory over the Minnesota Wild.

Zaitsev has one goal and three assists in 32 games this season.

Ottawa announced defenceman Victor Mete and forward Dylan Gambrell will take their places in the lineup.

The Senators (19-26-5) are 12th in the Eastern Conference.
