Report: Celtics signing Canadian guard Nik Stauskas to a two-year deal

Nik Stauskas‘ sensational back-to-back performances in the G League have apparently earned him a return ticket to the NBA.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported Thursday that the Canadian guard is signing a two-year contract with the Boston Celtics.

Stauskas, from Mississauga, Ont., erupted for a franchise-record 57 points Tuesday night as the Grand Rapids Gold beat the Wisconsin Herd 131-127 in NBA G League action. He followed that up with 43 points Wednesday during Grand Rapids’ 124-119 victory over the Lakeland Magic.

The 28-year-old Stauskas has played for six NBA teams since being drafted eighth overall by the Sacramento Kings in 2014, including two games with the Miami Heat this season. He has averaged 6.8 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game over his six-year NBA career.

The Toronto Raptors were looking to sign Stauskas as a replacement player on a 10-day deal earlier this season during a COVID-19 wave, but the Canadian contracted the virus before he was able to join the team.
