Brett Gallant leaving Team Gushue at the end of the season

Brad Gushue’s team announced Saturday that second Brett Gallant will be leaving the St. John’s, N.L., club following the conclusion of the 2021-22 season.

Gushue, Gallant and lead Geoff Walker captured the Brier this past Sunday as a trio with third Mark Nichols out of the lineup after testing positive for COVID-19.

Team Gushue, who claimed bronze for Canada in the Beijing Winter Olympics, will represent the nation again next month at the world men’s curling championship in Las Vegas.

They will also compete in the Princess Auto Players’ Championship (April 12-17 in Toronto) and the KIOTI Tractor Champions Cup (May 3-8 in Olds, Alta.) to wrap up the season.

“I would like to thank Brad, Mark and Geoff for the incredible opportunity to be a member of this team,” Gallant said in a statement. “Together this team has reached heights that I only dreamed were possible.”

Gallant, who joined Team Gushue in 2012, has also earned gold and silver medals at the worlds, four Brier titles and 11 Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling championships during his tenure.

The team also said Gushue, Nichols and Walker will remain together with the search for a new member underway.

“Our focus over the next couple weeks will be on the world championships,” Nichols said in the statement.
